Who is Man?

Psalm 8

"Who is Man?" This question seems easy to answer. On the one hand man is God's creation is small. Compared with the universe, man is as small as dust, or atoms or vapor that appears for a moment and then disappeared. However, on the other hand, the love, attention and gifts the Creator has been raised so high, so that he can conquer the world and allcontents beneath his feet; human bestowed a meaningful life, even becoming the heir of glory, which will persist when the heavens and the earth passed. That is one of spiritual enlightenment that David got when he pondered while keeping the sheep at night. Maybe he's lying or playing harp, looking up to the top and enjoy the beauty and splendor of God's creation of the universe. Then he membandingkannnya with his existence, as human beings, he was made aware that there are two sides of humanity.Humans do not really mean it, but God was pleased upon him a life full of meaning. In the hands Alone, Man is Not Means. In itself, human life was small, weak, short and humiliation.
  1. The human body is very small compared to the greatness of the universe with the moon star of nearly innumerable.
  2. Human body is very weak when confronted with the forces of nature such as for example hurricane, flood or earthquake.
  3. Human age is very short - about 70-80 years, compared with the fig tree, for instance, which can be thousands of years old.
  4. Human relationship is very fragile, very easily arise disputes, fights, battles and even wars.
That is why, many philosophers who ponder the wisdom of human life itself often arrive at the pessimism.David himself, for a moment, had muttered:"When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and stars which Thou place: what is man that thou art mindful of him? What is man, that You visit him? "(V. 4-5).Thankfully, David did not stop there, he continued:
"You made him almost the same as God, and crowned him with glory and honor. You made him rule over Your handmade; has Kauletakkan everything beneath his feet;Flocks and herds and gentlemen, is also the beasts of the field, the birds in the air and fish in the sea, and what flows across the sea "(v. 6-9).After David pondered the greatness of God's love for human life, he jumped from a pessimistic attitude to a very optimistic attitude. With gratitude and praise to God, he called for: In the Hand of God, It Means Becoming Human, In the hands of God, human life is grand, powerful and prosperous and glorious.

  1. Man is great because it was created "in God's own image and likeness" (Genesis 1:26-27 Lih cf Psalm 8:6).
  2. Man is powerful because God, from the beginning, has provided for the Cultural Mandate "Multiply and conquer the earth and all its contents. . . "(Genesis 1:28 Lih cf Ps 8: 7-9).
  3. Man is strong because God himself who kept his life. God gives, from the beginning, all the best for mankind. (Genesis 1:29 Lih cf cf Genesis 9:3 Psalm 8:3). As revealed by sweet by W. Forsyth, "God not only gives human life, but also prosperity." (God has not only given man His being, but Provide Also for his well being).
  4. Mankind is precious because it is prepared to be the only creatures who can praise and worship of God came to eternity. From everything on earth and all that is in heaven, only humans who can be called with his mouth and his heart, "God, our Lord, how glorious thy name in all the earth!" (Psalm 8:1 a). Moon and the stars can only shine, the fig tree can only be swayed, the birds can only chirp, and the only man who can "sing" glory of God that transcends the heavens (Psalm 8:1 b).
